Cat5e structured cabling is still the most popular system for new installations. It's capable of handling Gigabit Ethernet to distances of 100 metres with the flexibility offered by patching. A major benefit of Cat5e and Cat6 cabling is its ability to connect telephone equipment. Passive adaptors and RJ45 telephone panels wired to the phone system are the only additional components required. This enables any outlet on the cabling system to be used for a telephone‚ fax or modem and patched through to the phone system.
